Stannah Cyclocross Essen (Belgie)

Round 4 of the BPost Bank Trofee led to belgiums north into the town of Essen. For the last years, this round was well known to be a real muddy race named “GP Rouwmoer”. Not only that this years edition got a new name “Stannah Cyclocross Essen”, the race took place on a totally new location located at the sideway of the railway station of Essen very close to the dutch border.

Running a course aside a railway might be less attractive by touristic means, but the organisers made the best of the location and created an interesting track. Since there was rainfall during the last days, the track got a bit muddy and forced even the best crossers to run instead of cycling on some passages. Alongside an old railroad bilding two hurdles were located as obstacles. These hurdles wery quite tricky and should become a trap for some of the athletes.

The racers themselves had different opinions about this new track, but only Niels Albert said that he preferred the old one.

The weather was rainy and windy, but that led to some attractive races. The new location proved itself as beeing a diversified and attractive track. But this track had it pitfalls and some of the drivers crashed and had to bury their ambitions during the race.
