Superprestige Gavere

It was dry on the grounds of Kasteel Grenier, whereas former editions of this epic race were highly influenced by rain and mud.0

The usual date for this classic race used to be in the beginning of november, but this year that date was hijacked by the UEC for the european championships in Italy without asking the organiser for his consent. But new dates lead to new sights, and so we found ourselves with some stunning views from an autumn forrest flooded with sunlight.

‘777’ is the new number of the beast

There are three ladies in the team run by manager Bart Wellens, and all of them can win races. On thing was clear as crystal: to win  this third round of the Superprestige for women you have to beat the triple 7.

No surprice that european champion Annemarie Worst took the best start and entered the fields with her two teammates. During this race, the leading position altered within the team 777 but it should be the youngster, Yara Kastelijn who gained the victory in the end, ahead of her teammate Alice Maria Arzuffi. Beeing close to a perfect result taking all positions on the podium, Annemarie Worst ended up in fourth place, since Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado of Team Correndon-Circus managed to break up the phalanx of the triple sevens.

The reigning worldchampion Sanne Cant had to take an off day after landing hard on her shoulder during a crash, and finished 14th.

Nothing new happening in the mens race

One thing was sure during the last few weekends, when Eli Iserbyt stood at the starting line he took the win.

Still missing Wout van Aert and reigning world champion Mathieu van der Poel, a bunch riders managed to keep up to Iserbyt. But in the end the continious attacks of Iserbyt demanded their tribute and he managed to gain another solo win. The good performance of the Pauwels Sauzen-Bingoal Team was rewarded with a third place for Laurens Sweeck and a fifth place to Michael Vanthourenhout. Sweeck battled Lars van der Haar up to the finish straight, but hat to leave the second place for the tiny Telenet-Baloise lion.
